The second day of our resident Rex Graine of comic book journalism, nilskidoo’s preternatural rundown of the San Diego Comic Con. This article comprises a collection of text messages, tweets, and email from throughout his exploits tomorrow. If his bartabs continue at this pace, we may be initiating a kickstarter account.

Ultimate Comics Group's Stiletto Black trade, too hot for SDCC
09:30. The sophomore slump, so I break out the emergency fifth bottle of bourbon brought from Kentucky, so far away from this circus. Hitting the small pressers and artists alley today and tomorrow. Based on the success of the Gold Key revampings of Solar, Magnus and Turok, Dark Horse’s reps announce Jim Shooter will be overseeing a rebooting of the Comics Greatest World imprint. Showing off preview pages of X #1, written by Shooter and lushly illustrated by Al Columbia, three fans feinted onsite. I take a shot myself.
10:15. BlueWater unveils the Unauthorized Biography of Darren Davis, written by Rich Johnston. I don’t know if this is meta-fiction or a self-destruct sequence for the publisher. Pretty covers though. Another shot prompted.
14:29. Waited for two and a half hours in a line I thought was for the bathrooms, but turns out it was for a panel on Boom Studio about their upcoming first company wide crossover. Adventure Time’s Finn and Jake, the Avengefuls, Shannon Wheeler’s Too Much Coffee Man, Moorcock’s Elric and Hawkmoon, John McClane, Darkwing Duck, Gonzo and Camilla all unite against Nyarlathotep and Pinhead to save the Planet of the Apes. Looks like tons of fun. 72 variant covers probably pushing it.
14:44. At the Dynamite tables. Dynamite giving away exclusively limited edition prints for the new Lil Orphan Annie pulp series from Garth Ennis and John Cassaday. I almost miss the news due to the multiple Vampirella cosplayers taking group shots. God Bless Forrest J Ackerman. Never would’ve pegged Alex Ross for being such a hardcore fan though, but he really looks horrible in that thong. I finish my bottle on the spot, and am promptly asked to leave by security.
14:49. I come in another door and run smack dab into Liam Sharp. Nice guy. He mentions Matt Feazell is bringing his Cynicalman comics to the Madefire app. The marvels of modern tech.
15:09. Zenescope tables swarming with more security. Apparently there was some kinda gang fight between Fables fans and Wonderland fans over movie gossip. Interns or volunteers from the CBLDF were stuck in the middle of it all. I saw Brownstein take a black eye. Kristy Valenti was taking pictures and laughing maniacally. I try to run around all the commotion but swipe a flyer for the Disney Princesses Swimsuit Special, featuring the work of Adam Hughes, J. Scott Campbell, Talent Caldwell, and Alison Bechdel, among others. Should be well-received.
15:30. Valiant’s last panel of the day…really wanted to catch it. There had been rumors of Kevin VanHook being announced as writing and directing a new Bloodshot movie. But I waited too long in another restroom line (too much booze) and now they’re announcing doors are closing soon. Outside though, I see a preteen kid struggling with a stack of X-O Manowar ashcan comics and toys(!). Nobody’s looking so I trip him and grab his collection, running back to the hotel. The day cannot be for naught.
