Head of Diamond Comics Distribution Steve Geppi, after weighing bankruptcy last year and unable to fill the slack caused in the more recent demise of fellow comic book distributor Enemi/Haven, is announcing that he will be putting the skull of Jack Kirby on the auction block at Christie’s. The auction has already been scheduled for New Year’s Day at the Christie’s Rockefeller Center location in the heart of New York City.
International insurers Lloyds of London have appraised the ultimate nullifier of creative artifacts for a starting bid of 1,963 euros.
Geppi first came into possession of Jack Kirby’s skull following a private card game with Roy Thomas in the late 1990s.
Spokespersons for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund could not be reached for comment as of press time.
